Using a PC with Windows 95, 98, 2000:
Windows 95 defaults the display to 640 x 480 with 256 colors. That is fine if you have an old 14 inch monitor. However, most newer systems come with a 17 inch monitor now and you can greatly improve your web viewing by changing your display resolution and color depth.
- Click on Start and choose Settings.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double click on Display.
- Click on the Settings tab.
- On the right side about midway down, you will see a section for color palette. Click the arrow and select a setting of at least High Color (16 bit). This will make most web images look much better and less washed out.
- If you have a 17 inch monitor, change the screen display size to at least 800 x 600 or even better, 1024 x 768. This will let you see a lot more data at one time.
- Put the mouse on the arrow and slide it to the desired resolution. Windows will give you a preview of the new setting and ask you if you want to keep the new settings. Click OK if you want to keep them.
- You may have to restart your machine for the settings to take effect.
Using a Macintosh System
- Click the Apple menu, select Control Panels
- Choose Monitors & Sound.
- Click the Monitor icon.
- Select your resolution, 800X600 or greater. Your screen resolution changes instantly
- Click the control panel's close box.
